The Post Card-

Critical Reflection

How do your products represent social groups or issues?

My product represents social groups who are interested in sports, such as soccer. Soccer has a large fan base, with almost half of the world playing and watching the sport. My product relates with many people throughout the whole product. Many people play soccer, especially in young ages around high school and such. This creates the audience targeted for my film, people, young and elders, who enjoy the sport. The main issue with playing a sport is the dangers of an injury. Getting injured is pretty common for any athlete, in soccer many players have leg injuries. I wanted to highlight the issue with that, and make my movie about how easy soccer injuries can occur. Proven actually by the fact that during this whole filming process my actor did get an injury from playing soccer.

• How do the elements of your production work together to create a sense of ‘branding’?

The elements of my work create a sense of branding in many ways. To start with, in my production i have 4 main elements. The first element is my website. The website consists of everything that has happened during this production process and all the main elements. On the website i have all the social medias created for this short film, pictures from the filming it self, videos such as bloopers, and details about the movie itself. The second element is the social media accounts. For my own branding and name i created an Instagram, twitter, Facebook, and YouTube account. Each platform i made them all similar using the same profile pictures, the same username, and email that i created just for the short film. Each account also has information about the website and the short film. The third element is the unique name, for my film. To make something your own and different from others you have to be creative. I chose the name, "The Player". I chose that name for my film because it creates the whole film, about a soccer athlete. Lastly, we have the post card. The post card is something i created from scratch and made it my own way. On the post card are all the elements such as the social medias, the website, the QR code, and the showtimes for when the movie will be "released".

• How do your products engage with the audience?

My product engages with a very large audience. My film is in the sports genre, which attracts many people. Men and women from all ages watch sports, especially soccer. My short film doesn't have an age restriction, so any age could watch it. Soccer is the most watched and most played sport in the world creating a very large audience for my film.

• How did your research inform your products and the way they use or challenge conventions?

My research informed me about the way they challenge conventions by allowing me to work it out in my own way. Many soccer films are documentaries, there are very few movies about soccer. Most movies talk about one player and their past and their main soccer event that maybe led them to become famous or better or even end their career. After my research i came to the conclusion of making my short film about one soccer athlete and their big injury at the end, causing the big "OMG" affect on my film and ending with a cliffhanger.

Social Media

Even though i worked on the social media assignment but i wanted to talk a little more about how i felt about it and how it was. Whenever i had a project at school, ever since i was little i would love to do the creative parts of the project. I would love to do those big boards with glue and coloring the letters and just making it all creative. So when my teacher assigned us this and it said we would have to create our own website, InstagramFacebook, and twitter account i was really excited. So i first began working on my website, at first i was so stressed because it wasn't looking the way i wanted it to look but then i started getting the hang of it. The website was my favorite thing to do because i could design it in any way i wanted When i was doing my website i started finding pictures i wanted to use and then i found the perfect picture and it was just perfect for the website and it matched the movie so well. The wix website itself has plenty templates for anything you want and i was really glad because then i had some ideas of what i wanted it to look like. My template was for a short film about a travel movie so the pictures were not what i needed and wanted. But after finding the pictures i added them and started working on editing the words and writing everything. Then after i was almost done with the website i started working on the social media’s which i had to add onto my website. The website itself took me around 2-3 hours, which was a lot. Then the social media’s took around another 2 hours because i had some complications with getting it all together and naming them. For Facebook it took me the longest because to make a Facebook account it has to be a real name, not a business name. So i had to open a page through my actual personal facebook account which i only realized after making two new emails and adding other numbers. Twitter and Instagram were the easiest since i, myself, have both and i knew how to create them and how easy it was.

Experience with filming and groups

Getting to work in a small group was honestly good and bad. Since it was just me and Lucio it was difficult since he wasn’t in the class, he never learned what i did which meant he couldn’t help much with anything other than filming and helping me with some ideas for editing and writing about stuff. He couldn’t edit for me, help with blogs, or anything like that. When working with the group last year in AICE Media AS, we had a group of 4. Each person in the group had a role in something, we all did one thing or two to help each other out so it would be easier for us to edit, do blogs, film, and brainstorm. We would have one person drawing the storyboard, one person coming up with ideas for the movie, one person for editing, and one for the blogs we would divide into paragraphs instead of having just one person writing the blogs when we were able to have all the blogs looking the same. This year i was by myself on editing, writing blogs, getting ideas and all. It was tough but i got through it all and i hope it all came out good. I’ve never liked working in groups because then we depend on eachother for stuff and there’s always people who don’t do what they’re supposed to and they’re lazy with their work. Working on my own has its pros and cons and i’m okay with that. Lucio helped a lot when he offered to help me film. When i first told him about it he was actually excited and he asked if we could film about something he likes so it could look better and he wouldn’t have to act or fake anything. That’s when we chose to film about soccer. Lucio has played soccer ever since he was little, he fell in love with the sport and hasn’t stopped since. Even though he wasn’t really good at the sport until a year or two ago he still liked to play and have fun. After we filmed, around a day or two after, Lucio was playing soccer on thanksgiving day and he got badly injured. He tore his ligament on his left leg. He isnt able to play for almost two months, which wasn’t great for me because i wasn’t able to re-shoot and change what i didn’t like about the footage we first got. But at the end i had to work with what i had because i wasn’t going to be able to find someone new in such a short period of time.
