editing blog

Right after we finished taking our footage from our first day of filming we went over our footage and chose our best clips and put them in a different folder. Then before anything else i first shared all of our footage to one of group members. She’s in charge of editing and everything to do with editing the music video. We gave her some ideas of what we had in mind to do and what we wanted for the music video. She then explained a little bit what she was going to do and she began editing, i helped her a little and watched over and gave some pointers to what she was doing and she gave us some more ideas that would improve our music video. We went to youtube and transferred the song  to .mp4 using a music downloading website. After it downloaded we looked up glitch background for the intro of the music video. Once we found the one we liked, we started looking for glitch sounds, which I already had some sounds in my files. We then used Final Cut Pro X to make the intro, we added the glitch GIF and sound effect we then added the song title and the artist name. We exported it and opened After Effects to add the intro. We made a new composition, and a black background for we could add our videos. Since the song is retro I thought it’d be smart to add vhs and grain to our clips. Once we made sure the intro came out well we added the song as well as all the clips we filmed. We browsed for effects and presets that match the vibe of the song, and finally found the one that we all liked. At first we tried adding transitions to the clips but it didn’t look as well as we thought it'd look but we ended up just leaving it plain. We added the lyrics at the bottom so it’d look a little more complex and artistic. I played around with a plug-in called Magic Bullet Looks and made a coloring that we all liked on the video clips, as well as adding sapphire “tint”. We then added Twixtor/Time remapping to our clips to make them slower and longer. We then added a glowing effect to match each beat of the song and edited the graphs.

Filming blog 2

Over the thanksgiving break we started to film our music video. We started filming on saturday, we filmed for 3-5 hours. We took short 5 second clips of some parts and then we went to kats house and we filmed a little bit there and then we started going other places. We started skating around her house for a while and then we went and found a shopping cart that was laying around so we went on it and got some clips on that just pushing it down the street. After that we went behind mcdonalds to skate around and get some pictures and some clips of us just having fun and skating around. We had to take our time with that because we did not want anyone to end up injured or anything like that so we took our time and filmed and took pictures very slowly. After that we went ahead and just took some more pictures on this wall that was around mcdonald’s. We later went inside mcdonald’s and took some clips of us eating, talking, just having fun. Laughing and joking around. We ordered some fries and ice cream for us to share and eat and we recorded that footage of us. After that we ended up going back to the other street to film some more clips of us skating around and just sitting there having fun and talking about things. We then looked over all of our footage such as the pictures and videos. We looked for any mistakes, if they were too long, or if they were too short, or like we did not like the footage so we would go back and retake some and do things we thought would make it look better. We also by the end of the day started going over what we were missing if we needed anything else and we came to the conclusion that we would need an extra day for filming so we made plans to finish our music video next saturday and finish getting all of our footage and get it over with and start editing on that same day. We planned on now going to the mall or park or maybe the beach so we have some more fun footage to put in our “girls just want to have fun” music video. We also started watching some music videos to get some ideas about some things such as if we needed some props or if we never more footage, anything that would make it pop out or stand out very well. We will film on saturday of next weekend and we start editing immediately after we finish getting all of our footage so we actually have enough time to do everything slowly and not rush and mess any of our footage up or lose any of the  important stuff that could really impact our music video.
